Chicken Deep in Snow
We never did get the chickens in before winter. The sub zero temps haven’t bothered them at all but they’re frozen in place and I don’t want to risk breaking their feet off trying to move them.
At least they make a quick depth gauge for the snow. It’s easy to see we only had a couple inches of snow on the ground back in December.

After a ‘light’ snow I was telling friends and family the snow was chicken deep.

After a very short January thaw the snow melted down to chicken breast height.

We’re supposed to have another 2 day thaw starting tomorrow with a good chance of rain on Monday. Maybe then I can safely free their feet.
No real chickens were harmed in the photo shoot. We properly dressed the real ones and they’re waiting for diner in the freezer.

You gave me such a start! I thought you had real live chickens frozen to the ground. LOL, I was going to tell you that you can’t electrocute them either. You can tether one to a hot shot wire and teach a chicken killer dog to not bother the chickens. The electricity does not bother the chickens for some reason. It is good to know they are not out in that snow, unable to move.

Our highest snow here was maybe only chicken leg high. Now we have chicken feet high snow. Our rain will be coming today to wash away the snow, but how do we measure rainfall in chickens?

Oh, I’m so glad those weren’t real chickens
. LOL
Who needs to measure the snow when you have chickens. I would get some, but we don’t get snow accumulation in Austin. Enjoyed your post!

Oh!! Welcome back.
I thought what I had seen was your head, and you needed such a long thawing period.

Aha, this is where all the snow went! We didn’t have any, and because of that, I missed my hibernation period. What spring? We haven’t had any winter yet! You tricked me with your first picture. I thought they were real but frozen!

Nice frame of reference you have there! Up here we are usually “coop deep”, but with the rain lately we’re down to chicken-neck-deep snow

I had to laugh at some of the comments here…as if there were any real green or purple chickens.
