Common Speedwell
Many gardeners think of Veronicas as upstanding members of their gardens. Standing erect and proud with their showy flower spikes the garden variety Veronicas are quite different than their creepy low running relatives in the wild.

Common Speedwell is found in dry soils and fields. These were found in a pasture near Richville, NY. and they were growing in the tailings from a mineral dig site.

KeeKee the Pack Animal
I didn’t have the heart to tell my prospecting friend that his pack mule is a dog. KeeKee wasn’t saying anything and loves to help, so who was I to butt in. Besides I didn’t want to end up with the packs. |
I met some future students of Bovine University on the way to the dig site and let KeeKee and friend go ahead while I stopped to converse with a beefy looking fellow that seemed to take offense at our presence.

All I did was ask him to steer me in the right direction and suddenly I was the center of attention.

Mr tough guy now had some backup and the group started pressing in on me.

So I figured it best to back off a bit before I had to explain just who the predator here was.

The cow pictures are cute – I go cow hunting once in a while just cause I’m looking for one sweet little cow face to take a picture of. I don’t know why – I probably need to get a life! That last face peeking out is absolutely priceless! I know as well as most they can be snots – like my little friend I posted on twice recently getting into trouble but they are sooooooooo cute!

Delightfully good fun as always, John. The cow puns were a bit groany, but I relished them non-the-less.

I always enjoy your posts(-: The chipmonk is a cutie(-: I had two when I was a kid as pets. They were so fun! I know gardeners are not especially fond of them though.

The pack dog doesn’t look too happy about the job. Those cow pictures are so good, I can almost smell them, though it might be my neighbors I’m smelling. I like the chipmunk too.

Having grown up in suburbia, I had no idea how large of an animal cows are (or for that matter horses) til I met one in person. Chipmunks are very very cute. My cats are both laughing at the canine’s willingness to assist humans.

Keekee looks quite muscular. That weight training program has been paying off.
I have a birdbath that looks very much like your chipmunk photo. It’s shaped like a carved stump, with a cute little face peeking out.

The chipmunk is cute, but it won’t be again if it is asked to carry the packs like KeeKee.

You say KeeKee is willing, but looks a bit skeptical if you ask me. But (s)he has cleverly figured out how to lighten the load… just leave a zipper open, and the pack magically becomes lighter while walking. Just ask Chips (well, except he’s now hiking free with never a pack, of course)

I’d watch out for those steers. They look like they have it out for you!
