Fairie Awnings

Shelf mushrooms decorated with moss and lichens provide shelter for forest fairies caught in sudden rain showers.

fairie awnings

thorn apple needle I quickly learned these fairie lean-tos also provide security when I leaned into the thorn apple tree on which they were growing.

When the tip of one of these spikes breaks off in your flesh all thoughts of fairies are usually pushed out of your mind and replaced with pseudo french colloquialisms.

These living shelters are 100% organic and growth continues despite the apparent lack of demand.

Fairie Shelter

I normally don’t think about Fairies but exposure to the *FACE of the **CLIFF turned me around. Their presence in the blogosphere has made me realize there’s a tiny market for all natural building materials.

I am so tempted to say so many things .. there just isn’t enough time or space to do what I am thinking justice … thus better left unsaid ? LOL
I have to say though .. your photography is becoming absolutely stunning Mr. WiseA** … and I am very intrigued by these gorgeous little dwellings .. but I can just imagine what the border patrol might think we are up to ?
Have I ever found some BIG spiders to scare myself with !!! eeuuuwwww !

The second picture from the bottom is very, very impressive! The colors are fantastic! As for the practical use of these mushrooms, it looks like they could be the steps for some creatures to climb to the top of the tree.

I do not quite agree with you. I can’t find any joke in there, the lmushrooms do provide shelter for forest fairies caught in sudden rain showers. I have seen that.

Those are super cool. Did you see my fairy house? I used some type of fungus for an awning(-: It was so cool and I have not seen another one like it.
Of course I would love to have some(-:

Those are so perfect! I think your place is home to the wee folk whether you have ever seen them or not. The fungi seem like a condo tower, is there a penthouse with that gazillion dollar view?

Thanks for the kind offer to send them, we also have this type, on rotting cut wood. They keep well if harvested too. I have a coffee can full of them that has been moved to two different states with us. Must find a use for them before my descendents fight over who gets the coffee can when I am gone. HA

Those things are cool! I used to collect the big ones and do oil paintings on them. Sometimes, though, the little beasties inside made holes in my artwork…
