First Snow

It snowed even earlier than last year. Now around here it’s not unusual to get snow before Halloween but it is for it to stick around for days. The only problem I had with the early snow was it knocked out my electricity for over 20 hours. Even so I can’t deny it was a beautiful sight.

First Snow

It looks good now but by tomorrow it should melt and expose the leaves I never got around to raking.

First snow in the yard

And this is one of the few times I’ll post photos of my own yard. It’s usually too messy to show off.

Snow covered maple tree

One tree covered in snow was a picture I couldn’t resist taking. But another inspired a WTF moment. And I don’t mean Winter Time Fun. I’m going to convert it to heat and that means I’m going to have to do some work. Nice to get more wood for the stove but I’d rather burn the furniture.

Downed tree from heavy snow

Many trees had not shed all their leaves and fell prey to the heavy snow. That was the reason we lost power. Besides losing my beautiful tree in the yard a number of others took out a section of power lines down the road.

Driving down the road was nice - plenty of snow ‘tunnels’ were formed and it was a real winter wonderland.

Winter driving

Further down the road the tunnel opened up and I pulled over because I heard honking.

Geese

I’m not quite ready to to use any of these images as desktop wallpaper but I did make some up. The linked images go to a larger size (1024 x 768) so feel free to use them if you want.

I heard on the news that you got a bunch of snow. It is beautiful but so early………. WOW!!!

    mimmylynn,
and it’s still here. I can’t remember the last time there was snow on the ground for Halloween. Cold and bundled up kids yes but snow no.

    Very beautiful so peaceful.
Haven’t heard any snow yet or I don’t even see any one the mountain tops.

    Coffee is on.

    peppylady,
A little too peaceful - No sounds of coffee brewing in the morning and I had to drive to town to get a fix. But I have to admit I didn’t go to town just to get coffee. My wife needed a ride to work so we used each other as an excuse.

We also got snow, but it wasn’t as heavy as that. Most was gone the next morning. There are still some patches in the shady spots.

I always enjoy your photos, but I am not ready to use one of these for my desktop! I might save one for later.

    Debbie,
I’m not ready for it on my desktop either. Not when I can just look out the window and see it “live’.

Really beautiful photos. We were some of the lucky ones - we had power all along this time around. However, I did get stuck in my driveway that morning and never made it to work (for shame). I look forward to the snow, but for Christmas. I don’t want it right now! Thankfully it is melting!! :)

    HoneyB,
I’m happy to see the snow melting today but once I finish up some outdoor chores I’ll like to see it return. It was nice having the early snow last year that kept the ground from freezing. I just don’t want to to pile up like last year.

Oh, no, no! Way to early for snow. I’m not ready to face another 125 inches like we had last year! We’ve only had high winds here on the coast and like you, we lost a couple of trees, but mostly just the tops of dead spruces came down. Gratefully, we lost no live ones this time.

    Giddy,
You’re right it’s too early but the snow melted down here in the valley. Now I have to rake the leaves.

Oops! I spelled too wrong! sorry.

    Giddy,
Good thing I have a spell checker or I’d be spelling too wrong to.
