Happy Halloween

Here are my picks for the best Halloween themed plants.

Ghost Plants

I never did identify this plant. You can see the post here: Ghost Plant. These were gowing alongside other ghost plants / Indian Pipes – Monotropa uniflora

I’m tempted to call them Zombie Pods. Why? I was struck how they looked so much like the UnDead version of the seedpods of Grass of Parnassus – Parnassia glauca.

Well whatever they are – stick them in your Indian Pipe and smoke them.

Got Milkweed?

What’s Halloween without fangs?

Holy Flowering Fangs, Batman

Toothpaste Slime Mold – Lycogala epidendrum

Here’s one for the kids. This is a special Halloween toothpaste. Have them brush their teeth with this after every piece of candy they eat. I guarantee it will curb their candy cravings.

For all those that have wondered what happened to me – I’ve joined the ranks of the UnDead with a moderate case of Zombie flu I picked while down on Long Island. I’m home now but it’s going to take some time before I quit craving brains.

I went down to dig up the entrance garden. Everything must go, in a couple of weeks there’s going to be a huge hole where the house now is. I managed to get most plants transplanted to other areas but the stone I haven’t touched yet. I wasn’t eating enough brains and my strength waned to the point I needed to come home and recharge my batteries.

I’ll have to go back in a week or so and continue ripping things up – carefully.

The first photo goes along very nice with the title, but not the last one.

    Happy Halloween to you.

Those are all Halloween pictures for sure(-: Eww the toothpaste is nasty though. No need for candy!!!(-:
Why will there be a huge hole where the house is?
Sorry you were sick with the
Zombie flu. That would not be fun. I am trying hard not to get sick)-: I hope you feel better soon!

These are excellent Halloween plants. If you’re craving brains, I can see why you haven’t been here on the internet with the rest of us that much. :D

    Very cute! Great halloween post.

Wow, those are all cool and ghostly. Happy Dia de las mortes (or however it’s spelled).

  6. Sweet Bay Says:

Great Halloween pictures. Why is there going to be a hole where the house once was?

Fun post but sorry you got the crud. I’m curious, too, why the house and all are going. Shame you have to tear apart that beautiful stone work and garden. Was just looking at your posts tagged, “stone work” and admired this back when it was new, then realized it’s the same one coming out! bummer.

Maybe you are not supposed to rip up the yard. Maybe it’s the virus!

  9. Mary Delle Says:

Ghoulish plants. Do you grow them. Your front yard make-over is progressing. I wouldn’t fool with those stone until I’d eaten lots of brains.

Zombie flu, eh? That must be what I’ve had the past few days too, though I haven’t felt any overpressing urge to eat brrrraaaaiiinnnnnns. And all my limbs and organs still seem to be present. Hope you’re feeling better now.
That mystery ghost plant has me intrigued too. I’m going to send the picture to an associate of mine who is a botanist by professon, and see if she has any thoughts. Will let you know.

I wondered what happened to you! Well, you’ve got me totally stumped on that first one. I don’t think I’ve every seen anything like it.

  12. jodi (bloomingwriter) Says:

I checked with my friend the botanist, and your plant IS Monotropa. What she said was “Yep that IS Monotropa uniflora just before it releases seed. The nodding pipes straighten.” Cool, isn’t it? Mystery solved.

mystery plant between fairy smoke plants (good for dissociative pain, panic attacks – tea tastes like dirt, maybe I didn’t clean them enough?) wild guess….. if ovule turns bright red… a jack in the pulpit… if you tough root to tongue and it burns like the devil.. its probably Jack) I rarely work on land clearings any more so my plant knowledge is fading away.
