Looking for signs of Spring

Spring is just around the corner, unfortunatley it’s a 400 mile long block. So I’m packing my bags and leaving tomorrow to meet it. I’m headed to Long Island to get my hands dirty, my feet muddy and my soul renewed.  I expect to be gone about a week. But I’ll have to pay a price for running out on old man winter. I’ll miss our 30th Wedding Anniversary on Tuesday.

Yep you got it – April 1

It’s a long story and I’ll try to keep it short. My wife and I lived together for a while and every Sunday her mother would call. And every Sunday she would ask to speak to me and ask when were we going to get married.  When asked once again after a couple months I blurted out “APRIL FIRST!” I didn’t hear a laugh and didn’t push the joke farther. I didn’t realize I started the ball rolling until the next week when once again I was asked to come to the phone. To my surprise plans had already been well under way during the preceeding week. I couldn’t fight the inevitable.

I’m lucky. I’ll never forget our Wedding Anniversary. And this year when I return home the truck will be filled with flowers. They may be a belated gift but my beloved will understand.

 On another note:

Be careful what you wish for. Before I married I always wished to live in a house full of girls. It took a bit of time but I got that wish. We have 3 daughters and I don’t think I’ve ever won a family vote.

I’m hoping spring will follow me home.  I know the rest of you northerners are getting tired of waiting.

That was an incredible story – one that I’ll never forget. There’s a lot of love in this post.

I hope spring does follow you home. I wanted to tell you that I changed the colour of the font in my blog so hopefully that will be easier to read!

    Have a good time.

    kate,
I won’t forget it either :) The joke is on me but I always loved a good laugh.

I stopped by and saw the change. And glad to see you’ve made up your mind to do what you want on your blog. Every post doesn’t need to be garden related. You’ll develop your own following and friends along the way.

I will have fun. Work is only an excuse for going. I can’t wait to hit the wholesale nursery

Ah Wiseacre, what a romantic — loved the wedding countdown…and the fact that you got your wish.

My husband and I started our married life in a combat zone, fight over and 40 years later, we’re still together.

Have a good trip….I’m headed to Florida, sun, surf, sand and oh ya, beer drinking in the warm sunshine.

    Bamapat,
We’re not romantic, just too lazy to fight. I usually wait till the temps hit 80 but I’ll have a beer and think about ya while you’re gone.

Funny! Have a great time “down south.”

    Pam,
We’re still laughing and I promise to have a good time. You have fun too. I regret not being able to make it to Spring Fling and put faces on all the blogs I’ve discovered this winter.

    Hi wiseacre!

Sorry I didn’t get back to you sooner with your awesome and generous offer. I’d to join you on your hunt for perennials tomorrow but my husband lost the first buddy of his highschool crowd and the memorial is on sunday. I’ve got a bunch of things to do tomorrow to get ready (one of which is cleaning the house enough to have the other buddies come back here afterwards).

Please keep me in mind in future trips!

If spring won’t come to you, go to spring! I like your plan. Happy(early)Anniversary!

You will probably be back up north with a truck full of flowers by the time you get this message. I hope your trip was great and that you found some Spring to bring home as well. It is blasted freezing here in Massachusetts this weekend!

30 years! Wow. And sort of a shot gun wedding, huh? I grew up in a house of women–mom and two sisters. My dad and I aren’t really brave, extroverted souls, so we eventually got sex changes to fit in.

Thirty years and you sound like it’s been a sweet romp the whole time.Happy Anniversary to you and your dearly beloved. I hope your trip was safe and that you find spring and drag it kicking and screaming further north before we all start kicking and screaming.

Happy Anniversary! Many a thing said in jest… I think April is a great month to get married (I did it too). I hope Spring follows you home – although a stray dog instead could be interesting.

Happy anniversary! I have to agree on the stray dog :) Spring has taken its giant leap here, so I hope it’s reached you too.

    Happy Anniversary!
