Naturally Sculptured Rock

2009
Mar 7

You can’t say this is just a rock. There’s something special about this one. I found it so it’s ‘Mine, Mine, All Mine’. I just have to get it home.

Naturally Sculptured Rock

This rock belongs in a water feature. I’m thinking of having it emerge from a shallow pond. In my dreams I imagine drilling a hole in a stragic spot and making a ‘fountain’ so water will cascade down in just the right spot.

But I won’t keep it. Someone else will get it. I’m funny that way.

But I do need to stop giving this kind of find away. I’m usually so happy just to have something like this to ‘work’ with I never think of selling the ‘find’. I get enough for my time I almost feel guilty charging for something I found.

Another poblem is how do you put a price on something like this. There’s nothing to compare it to, no ‘manufacturing’ costs and no purchase price. All I have is shipping and handling charges :)

There is some value added. Nature was nice enough to apply some moss and lichens.

Lichens on a rock

I figure it would take at least 3 hours to load, deliver and set it in place. All by hand of course since renting and transporting heavy equipment would make it way too expensive to even consider (IMO)

If you’re wondering – I’d charge about $150 for this rock. Of course every minute over 3 hours adds to the price.

So what would you be willing to pay?

that rock is awesome, i have one similar along the rock wall out back. it is really neat.but much smaller.a lot of weird one out there.love rock

    silentangels,
…and to think it was just sitting there on top of the wall. How lucky is that? Usually the good ones are half buried and weathered uneven.

It always amazes me at how beautiful the creations of nature can be.

    mimmylynn,
I’m continually awed by nature. I always find something beautiful whenever I look.

    Dear Mr. WiseA**
If only I had the room for this AWESOME,unlimited to the imagination, hunk of handsome, earth born, amazing boulder of life ???
You have the best luck in finding these creations .. I bet you said so many things to yourself when you saw it .. it would have been so cool to hear YOU !! .. You are very sweet to offer it on the “open” market .. if ONLY ?
OK .. if I win the lottery tonight .. can I drop you a note about it ?? LOL
    Awesome ROCK Dude !!! : )

    Joy,
It’s not really luck – The area around here is rich with these things and I spend a LOT of time wandering around trying to find my way home. Watch some Daffy Duck cartoons when he finds treasure and you’ll hear a close approximation of me.

What open market? I only asked what you’d pay – not that I’d sell it to ya. But go ahead and make me an offer I can’t refuse.

Hmmm, I did buy a lottery ticket too….fat chance of me winning anything though.

    Cool Rock!

    HoneyB,
Is your fat chance any better than my slim one?

A fountain is a great idea for that rock. A fountain like that is the kind of thing I don’t ever think of, but I’m fascinated by when I see it.

    Ratty,
Well you’re an Everyday Adventurer and I’m a gardener so I’d expect we’d see things differently :)

I would like to have it. The only problem is not on transportation but the rock will block and I won’t find my front door anymore.
Then I need to drill a big hole in order for me to get into my house.

    rainfield,
The rock isn’t that big. I estimate it doesn’t weigh more than 400 LB. if you want to figure out the postage.

  7. Monica Says:

I lichen moss a lot. I feel moss positively about lichen. Rock on!

    Monica,
You know what they say about Rolling Stones. Rock on and you’re lichen not to turn green.

  8. Giddy Says:

Wow! That’s a steal at $150! Sure wish I had a few of those rocks around here.

    Giddy,
Not that I’ll admit to stealing people’s hard earned money.

In some way’s it’s cheap when you consider it would cost that much for someone else to just get out their machinery to load it on a truck. Then I think of what I could get for some of the moss covered boulders on Long Island. I need a bigger truck :)

  9. Robyn Says:

    Man I’m lichen that!

    Gorgeous….

Well I dared. I came across this site today while searching for some ref pictures. I didn’t know what lichens were till now. But I’ve seen em before and they really give the thing it grows on a character! The rock above, in my opinion, is beautiful. Nice find.
