Purple Flowering Raspberry
Apple had a pretty purple mystery on her post Wildflower Walk
What she happened to find was Purple Flowering Raspberry.
Rubus odoratus
When not in bloom Purple Flowering Raspberry can easily be overlooked. It’s often found in wet / moist thickets and along the edges of woods. These photos where taken on the Russel Turnpike. This dirt road has turned out to be one of the wildflower hot spots for me this year.
The stems are reddish brown and without thorns. The leaves look like large maple tree leaves.

Surprise! They look like raspberries - only shallower / flatter. They’re edible but tart according to my field guide. These are the only berries I’ve found and you can see why I didn’t try tasting them for myself.
The flower photo is linked to a 1024 X 768 sized image for a better look and to use as desktop wallpaper / background. (if a post has a linked image - it’s wallpaper sized from now on)

Thanks for the ID! I’ll be back at the farm tomorrow. Hopefully I can hike back down to where I found them and see if there are any berries yet.

I also have a true passion for marijuana . It’ a recent passion but very deep.I like to stay home and smoke a lot. I think that one day we will smoke all together. What do you think about it?
