Raquette River Bison

It would be easy enough to drive by the Raquette River Bison farm and not notice it. The Bison are often out of sight and except for a small sign there’s no clue there are Bison roaming pastureland along the South Canton Road in the Town of Potsdam.  It might be a roundabout way but the ‘alternate route’ between Canton and Potsdam will give you a chance to see Buffalo.

LOL - love the foliage in the 1st shot. It isn’t a fig leaf, by any chance? I love Bison, they’re so stately, majestic & tasty. The only ones I get to see are at a small public zoo, in a relatively small enclosure. These look much happier.

    Mr. McGregor’s Daughter,
Nope - just a modest little leaf that got in the way. I’ve never bitten a Bison so can’t comment on the taste. Driving by today the Bison were gone and replaced by a flock of Turkeys that found something tasty left behind by the Bison.

great pictures of the buffalo and deer, oh my back hurts just looking at all the stone slabs you have been hauling and placing Wow!

    rosemary,
Glad you liked the livestock photos. Try what I do. A quick cold beer - long hot hot shower - another cold beer with dinner and then do what comes naturally. Nap before bedtime.

This is cool! Bison are animals I know I’ll never see where I’m from. Your pictures make the animals around me seem almost boring right now.

    Ratty,
They are closer than you think. Here’s a couple clues for your next adventure.

Molnar’s Buffalo Farm - Monroe County
Steckmeyer’s Buffalo Ranch - Monroe County
Tatonkas R Us - Okland County
    Domino’s Farm - Washtenaw County

Great pictures Bison have always been my favorite animals.. We had then near a small airport in St. Louis. to see. I love the added bonus of the leaf too. When you spoke of wrong setting on camera foe deer. In August, My youngest daughter was married. And no flash was allowed.in the church. I had some one else use my camera for me and Almost all pictures came out black. I was able to lighten them up enough to see but not printable. The look like news paper print.. I had the setting for low light but. The dial was turned to wrong setting. Oh live and learn. LOL. Have a great week end. . .

    Grammy,
.and some airports have trouble with birds on the runways. I’m not flying to St. Louis.

That’s too bad about the wedding pics. My middle daughter was married this summer outside in the rain - no problem using a flash - there was enough lightning to go around. I got some great umbrella pics and the shortest ceremony I’ve ever been to.

There a few bison around here that people raise.

    peppylady,
Just imagine what it was like when they roamed the Great Plains in the millions.

I suppose the natural censorship is probably necessary–in this world, you never know just who might be offended by Buffalo parts.Loved the captions you’ve added!

Ha, love the caption of the first bison photo. They are such incredible animals. There are several bison farms near here and it is great to see them roaming about. I discovered this summer that my son loves bison meat, even though he thinks it’s beef.

Your sandstone photos are impressive. I’m feeling sorry for that truck of yous … oh, and your back too!

    kate,
I haven’t tried buffalo meat yet. I’m a picky eater and new foods are hard to get into my mouth.

You reminded me of the time my mother-in-law tried to pass lamb off as beef. I took one bite and declared the meat had gone bad.
