Wild Ginger - Asarum canadense

I’m on a wildflower roll this year. I ended up on the ground again so I could take a photo. But this time it wasn’t because the flower was so small. Ginger is shy and tucks her private parts down by the ground out of sight. If you want to take a peek you need to stoop to a low level.

Wild Ginger

My field guide states Ginger likes rich woods.  I’ve found it scattered throught the woods around here although there were no signs of money.

It does like the shade and I’ve never seen it in the sun except for the short time before trees leaf out. It prefers some moisture but can thrive in dry spots.

Ginger

This year Ginger, Bluets, Pussytoes, Trilliums and Marsh Marigolds are all blooming at the same time.

Trilliums are my favorite spring flower. Both white and red are blooming now but there don’t seem to be as many as last year.

    Apple,
Hopefully I came across some early ones and the rest are on their way. At least that’s my hope. The spot I took the photo had many more in bud.

Those ferns are lovely. What is the fuzzy stuff on the top of them?
Please be sure to take another picture once they are totally open.

    Teresa,
That white fuzzy stuff was what caught my attention. There was a lot of it lower on the ferns and it reminded me of “Invasion of the Body Snatchers” and the ‘Pod People’. I have no idea what it is but I will stop again to get that photo for you and update this post when they are ready.
