Stone Snow Sun

The snow down in the lowlands melted so I thought I’d go clean up my last of the season jobsite. I wanted to lay the last stepping stones but it was too muddy to do much of anything besides take some photos.

Stone path

The hard part is done. Stone is in place, topsoil brought in and spread, rubble cleaned up and the beds are ready for spring planting.

Stone walk with steps

That done I headed south to check another site to see if the flower beds needed some fall cleanup.
Here’s a pic of a boulder moved by hand about 200 feet. I’m glad the owners liked the rock and didn’t want it moved out of the daylily bed. I’m going to plant some Solomon Seal around it next year.

Boulder

The snow is still present in the higher elevations. A pretty sight but I’m not mentally prepared to call it a season yet. And no, I didn’t build these rock embankments. The house builder gets that credit.

First snow at Higley Flow

The snow meant we didn’t have to clean up the beds so I went to say goodbye to my helpers hanging out by the boulders near the main entrance.

Sun Worshippers

but they never noticed me since they were too busy worshipping the sun.

I love your stone work. What are the people made of? We are having warm days here in Mo. No snow. Yea! I am putting together a seed swap Tue on bloomin Tue. Will be the final count. If you are interested please let me know.
    Have a great weekend. Grammy

    Grammy,
The helpers are set in their ways. Made of concrete they don’t get around much either.

Seeds are not my thing. I don’t have the space for them. I did collect some yellow jewelweed seed this year though. There’s none around here so when I visited my daughter downstate I grabbed some so I can throw them in he pond garden next year. If you want you can have some - but be warned - they are prolific and aggressive to the point that’s all you’ll see when they take hold.

I was thoroughly enjoying your little adventure. Then your “helpers” caught me completely off guard. Good show! You certainly can weave a tale.

    mimmylynn,
Those things give me the creeps everytime I see them. But I did have fun with the standing one once. How to move a boulder

    Dear Mr. WiseA**
My goodness you had a lot more snow than we did .. and NO !! I’m not ready for that mindset either. And YES !! .. it all melted no problem and WOW ! this week we are having temps in mid teens with SUN .. those sun worshippers are going to be too HAPPY.
I love this stone work .. looks like they have no neighbors sitting on top of them with that beautiful view of the water.
I really am going to take my “training wheels” OFF come Spring .. those DUMB timber ties are going and I have to become a real deal gardener without them .. it is all very scary with what I am planning .. but hubby is more than willing to be VERY helpful (I think he feels he should do something VERY nice for me because he will have been to Cuba and gone to South Carolina on a golf trip by then!) haha .. love working the “poor me” aspect .. hehehe .. awwww I don’t really do that .. but the garden is “a changin!” haha
Hope your Halloween was fun ? : )

    Joy,
Snow schmoo I’m glad it’s gone. I just hope I manage to get all the wood into the house before it returns.

Neighbors are out of sight but the area once ‘wild’ is now getting built up with big houses. I feel a bit sorry for the camp owners who were there for years - their property taxes are now skyrocketing.

I hate to ask what you’re planning. Anything besides a nice cut edge is going to crimp your spending at that store you love. You’ll be working that “poor” you in more ways than one :)

Yea, we had fun. We went to a friends and put ‘costumes’ on something that looked like pizza. I drew the line on the moose though. Hope you had fun. Sorry I missed you on your fly by.

Beautiful….Your stone hardscape is fantastic. I love all things stone and could we very happy looking at the loveliness you have created. Gail

    Gail,
The pics don’t do justice to the stone. My work isn’t anything special - it’s the stone that makes it look good. It’s impressive just laying around.

wow is all I can say , amazing stone work but those helpers!

    rosemary,
Yea, and they say good help is hard to get.

  6. Giddy Says:

Those statues look like the painting “The Scream”! Too weird for my taste. The rock work is beautiful.

    Giddy,
All I can say is it’s a good thing no sound comes out of their mouths.
