Strutting His Stuff

I didn’t hear any gobbly gook from this Turkey since he was out of hearing range. But he sure was out there trying to impress any females that might have been around.

Male Turkey

I almost gave up hope of photographing a male displaying this year. I thought by now all the females would be sitting and brooding over the choice they made.

But he seems to think there is still some need of his services. So on with the show.

The photos were taken using the full 18 x zoom on my camera. I wish they had come out a bit sharper but then we’d get too good a look at his face. He might be a good looking bird but I think he might have better luck putting a sock over his head.

Or how about some flowers and candy?

Very nice turkey pictures. My husband was hunting while looking for mushrooms. I didn’t hunt this year. I heard a gobble though. Wild turkeys are so weird. Seems like they live all along the roads I drive. and scratch in the woods where I walk. The rest of the time they are invisible. Where do they go all summer?

OMG, a turkey with a head! Something I never saw once until I lived in Idaho. Great shots of him!

    Heather,
Kind of like cross walk signs – I always thought pedestrians had no hands and feet until I actually saw one in the street :)

I guess he is strutting his stuff. Any ladies around? When they put the cattle in the summer pasture across the road from us and the turkeys return.

    Coffee is on.

    peppylady,
There was a female in a field nearby. Don’t know if she ever noticed him. First turkey hot dogs now turkey burgers? Oh tofu.

I remember seeing wild turkeys when I lived in NJ. Now that I am in California, all I see are west coast turkeys. Great pictures, thanks for sharing.

    Barbara,
I hear there’s a big flock in Hollywood.

That turkey hid its face with the tail, without noticed that it had exposed another part.

    rainfield,
Now much to see though. I guess hung like a turkey wouldn’t be a compliment.

I really hate turkeys. I have to say that this guy is a good looking fella though.

    mimmylynn,
Turkeys aren’t so bad. If they were my wife would never have married one.

That’s the kind of turkey I think of when I imagine what they look like. I recently found out that there are turkeys in Michigan. A few of them were terrorizing a small town.

    Ratty,
Those villagers need to go after the turkeys and knock the stuffing into them.

As cool as it is to see a wild turkey, I have to agree that they are UG-lee! :)

    Monica,
Only their heads are ugly. They need to see Shari Lewis and have her make a cute sock puppet they could wear.
