Sunset to Moonrise

The sky looked promising from the hole I live in. The clouds were striking and there was plenty of color in the sky. So hoping to get a nice sunset photo I went down to the Morley bridge. Strange how a mile and a few minutes changes things and by the time I got on the bridge the color had faded.

Still it wasn’t a wasted trip since I did get a decent photo of the river. I next tried to get a different perspective on the old Morley mill by walking out on the river ice. That plan too was thwarted. The recent warm weather had foiled my plans. So all I was left with was a shot of the ice and snow from the river’s edge. It looks like I’ll have to wait for summer and wade the river before I can get a photo of the mill from the spot I was thinkinf of.

At least I got a pic of part of the mill. These old gears were removed long ago and left to rust.

Having got my photo fix of the day I went home to upload the photos on my computer. In the process I checked the weather and learned that the full moon was about to rise. Back out I went and just in time. I managed to get a couple of shots before the moon was hidden by the clouds.

All your picture are great but I really like your first moon shot.
    Coffee is on.

    peppylady,
I think that’s the best ‘quality’ moon shot since it came out closest to the actual scene. I was fooling around with different modes but as usual I had a OOPS moment and can’t remember which photo was from what.

Gorgeous as always. I really like the picture of the ice and snow from the edge of the river. It’s almost surreal.

    mimmylynn,
I keep trying to get that ice/snow wave but all attempts don’t do it justice. That’s the best so far but it doesn’t mean I’ll quit trying. The cool thing about it was a whirlpool in front of the wave. I took a photo but it was not discernible in a still image. I thought of taking a video but then that would have been like watching the aquarium channel on public access TV.

Wow you got the same pictures I saw tonight. I wonder if they were your clouds in the way. lol. Great photos.

    Grammy,
Not my clouds. If I put something in the way I make sure it’s something a bit more substantial and down to earth. Would you like a 1 ton boulder delivered and placed on your in-laws driveway?

Wiseacre, You should contemplate uploading some of your work to http://www.wunderground.com Most of the stuff on there is not as good as, and certainly no better than, what you’re doing. Let the entire world rejoice in your efforts. (Of course they can now, but they probably have a larger viewership.)

    Leo,
I did put a couple photos on there way back in ’98. Even to this day I get an odd visitor to my web site from there. If I wasn’t so lazy I’d do it again.
    - you know wunderground is a shortcut on my desktop

My efforts? You know me better than that – there’s little to rejoice there :)

I saw that big orange ball on my way home last night, it was beautiful.

    HoneyB,
Yea, it was worth getting off my butt and going out to see it.

    NOTE:
Your name link is incorrect. When I go to use it it goes to a “Not Found” blogger page.

  6. Rainfield Says:

You have stolen the full moon which I saw yesterday. It was so beautiful. I am going to get it back tonight. You have no way to refuse.

    Rainfield,
I only borrowed it for a few minutes. I didn’t think you’d mind.

  7. Ratty Says:

I stopped for awhile trying to take pictures of the moon after it begins to get dark. My results haven’t been anything I’d be happy to put on my site. Those gears look like something my dad would collect. He loves stuff like that.

    Ratty,
I too have problems getting moon shots once darkness settles in. I need to go to the camera manual and learn something.

Your dad should come visit the area this summer. There’s a wealth of ‘yard art’ available around here.

Nice shots! I like the gears too…something about old rusty things is highly decorative IMO. (Of course I’m not altogether right, either :)

    Lisa,
I’ve just returned from your blog and I got a feeling that we think alike so of course you must be right :)

  9. jodi (bloomingwriter) Says:

Wow, these are just marvelous. I seem to lack the gene for taking good sky shots with the moon or sun in them. Very wonderful winter sky…but I am getting tired of winter too.

    jodi,
I’ve woke up from my long winter nap only to find I got up too early.

    Dear Mr. WiseA**
I have let a time lapse happen when checking up on you with these gorgeous pictures ! .. I have taken a few for wallpaper (as you said we could, right ?) .. You are doing something right with or without a tripod sir because your pictures are truly beautiful .. if I do “melt” and get a new camera .. I better justify it with pictures at least half the quality you manage ! Did you say Bugs or Daffy is your agent ????? : )

    Joy,
Hey I’m no better. It usually takes a comment to get me to visit. Unlike you I don’t have as many visitors to keep up with so I don’t really have an excuse.

Yosemite Sam must be my agent – I haven’t seen a dime from my pics yet :)

    silentangels,
Thank you, although I try to be funny at times most of the laughs just come from people looking at me. Maybe I should post a photo of myself so everyone gets a laugh.
