Swamp Milkweed

2009
Aug 1

Today’s post is brought to you by the Green Blooded Creature from the Black Lagoon. She (yes, icky monsters are female according to my 9 year old male sources) made mention of another swamp dweller. The Creature also posted some lunch photos, or at least I assumed the toads are on the menu. But whatever, they’re great shots and you might like them. I only wish they would have been large enough to put on my desktop. (wink wink nudge nudge)

Asclepias incarnata

The Creature’s plants have a long way to go. Her’s are only seedlings so here are a couple of my pics to show what’s to come.

A closer look reveals a possible reason the Creature likes this plant. Flowers with Fangs – who can resist?

Photos are linked to larger sizes suitable to use as desktop wallpaper. (1024 x 768) Go ahead and and pick one if you dare.

Never had milkweeds in my garden before, but they are coming! One of the Blotanists is sharing some seeds with me. Your images are great!

thanks for stopping by, our family came into this country from Ireland, passing through Binghamton N.Y., some staying in that state, other members going west,Kansas, Missouri and Colorado….so the hamlet of Morley is intriguing! I love Asclepias, and I always stop for turtles, sometimes they hang out in the driveway puddles, just holding their heads above the water…so I check before I drive through the water.

It’s just possible that you had me rolling on the floor laughing. But that doesn’t mean you’re not in big trouble, mister! At least you posted some pretty Swamp Milkweed flowers to go along with that gorgeous Swamp Thing up there. The Creature is lurking…

Do love those milkweeds, of all varieties, even the swampy ones. Are they as fragrant as the common milkweed? I must have some Monarch (butterfly) in my family tree, as I can’t resist their fragrance.

I love these fanged flowers. I’ve been taking pictures of some myself. I know what they are all because of you. Yes, you are to blame, and I am extremely grateful.
